  • How an E-Cigarette Works

An E-cig, as some will call it, has three primary parts. They are the atomizer, cartridge and the battery unit. This device will use heat to vaporize the propylene glycol liquid and that is how the mist is formed. The mist can then be blown out of the mouth exactly like smoke from a cigarette. You can think of the heating process as the same way that a humidifier creates its smoke. The heater that heats the liquid is called an Atomizer. E-cigarette atomizers will eventually start to wear out due to sediment buildup. Once this occurs the electronic cigarette will not work properly, and the atomizer will have to be replaced.

The cartridge works very similar to a mouth piece. This cartridge is a small plastic container with openings at each end. Inside there is a sponge that holds the liquid solution that is vaporized. You will always be replacing these because once the solution runs out you will need to insert another in order for your electronic cigarette to work. Some devices can be used without the cartridge by directly allowing the user to pour the e-juice into the atomizer. This technique is called "dripping" and requires a special mouthpiece to make the process easier.

The liquid contains the nicotine that your body will ingest. The name of the solution used is E-juice. The normal cigarette types, tobacco and menthol, are available and specialty flavors are also possible to use. Some of these flavors include chocolate, vanilla and various fruit flavors. You will even find some flavors that are similar to already popular brand cigarettes. Each liquid container comes with a designated concentration of nicotine. They range from 6 mg to 36 mg. gradually lowering the amount of nicotine over time can eliminate the need to use an electronic cigarette.

You will find that all of the batteries within these ecigarettes are rechargable lithium batteries. The largest part of this device usually tends to be the battery. The battery will contain an airflow sensor that will trigger the battery to turn on when in use. This was designed by manufacturers to prevent the battery from overheating. These devices have different charging methods but some of the more popular ones are AC outlet and USB cables. There are some USB-tethered devices that offer the final solution to battery problems but these devices do not work unless they are plugged into a USB port.

Even though many if not most of these electronic devices are designed to look like actual cigarettes there are some with very cool and unique designs. They also come in two different variations, reusable or disposable. The reusable electronic cigarettes come with refillable parts to allow for someone to continue using the same e-cigarette. These refillable parts can be found wherever you purchased your electronic cigarette. The disposable electronic cigarette can be used until the liquid solution runs out. The solution cannot be added again and it becomes useless.
